NORTH SHORE AIR Grant  from EPA

air pollution sourceThere are many sources of air pollution. We discuss fixed sources (including point sources, such as power plants and industrial sources and area sources, such as commercial businesses like drycleaners and nail salons). We also consider mobile sources (both on and off the road such as cars, trucks, ships and airplanes).

The problem is complicated, but we must be able to prioritize, to clean up the worst offenders first. But to know what the worst sources of air pollution are is not easy.

First you must state your parameters,

  • What is pollution? (NOx? SOx? Hg? O3? HAPs?)
  • Which types of pollutants are most harmful?
  • Which are most abundant?
  • What are the sources?
  • Is it technologically feasible and affordable to fix the sources?

The questions are many but nothing less than the health of ourselves, our children, and all living things that breathe air is at stake.
